Retail Store Manager: Aroma Bar

Location: Tigard, Oregon

General Description: This is a full time, fast paced position which requires working under strict deadlines. Varying work hours which may include nights, holidays, and weekends. The retail store manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of Mountain Rose Herbs’ Aroma Bar. Duties to include, but are not limited to, providing exceptional customer service, direction of staff, ensuring that the store is exceptionally clean, organized, and stocked at all times. The Aroma Bar is an upscale aromatherapy boutique that requires a professional demeanor, appearance (business casual dress code), and the accurate facilitation of aromatherapy knowledge.

 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:             

  • General knowledge of aromatherapy and herbalism and a willingness to learn more.
  • 3+ years of previous retail store management experience.
  • Proficient in all customer service and retail functions. Knowledge of Square POS a bonus.
  • Self-motivated, well organized, and the ability to perform quick and accurate work with a strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
  • Must have the ability to communicate competently and clearly with Store Director and staff, particularly for any questions, concerns or issues that arise.
  • Exhibit exceptional customer service skills, and a professional and cheerful demeanor both with customers as well as fellow MRH Staff.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Exhibit accurate and efficient computer and typing skills.
  • The ability to follow instructions and work well with others in a team orientated environment.
  • Ability to maintain outstanding store condition and visual merchandising standards.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer, employee, and company information.
  • Ability to retain composure in stressful situations.
  • Position requires the ability to "shift gears"/multi-task at a moment's notice and have a professional attitude.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Dependability: is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback for improved performance.

  • Ensure training of employees thoroughly on all procedures. Correcting errors and problems in a calm and efficient manner.
  • The retail store manager must always be aware, follow and enforce rules laid out not only in the Employee Handbook but any/all applicable laws and guidelines for employee privacy, confidentiality, etc.
  • Directing the flow each day and ensuring that all of the day’s work is finished and completed correctly and efficiently.
  • The retail store manager is responsible for resolving issues of staffing coverage and filling in when necessary.  
  • Having complete responsibility for time off request sheets and monitoring timeclock. Organizing the schedule and approving vacation time off and forwarding the slips to the Store Director within the same pay period.
  • Coordinating with Store Director on department meetings regularly, addressing new information that staff should know, and discussing difficulties, changes in procedures, new products and upcoming events. Typing up complete notes for the meeting topics and being sure that each employee receives the notes.
  • Communicating with the Store Director about the general happenings with the Retail Store on a regular basis.  
  • Keeping a written account of all personal discussions or confrontations that occur (both formal and informal), having employees sign all written check in, evaluations, or pertinent discussions when necessary. Discussing this with the Store Director.
  • Plays an active role in any employee evaluations or disciplines along with the Store Director and HR. This includes by addressing that individual, initiating a chat, documenting the issue, what was said to the staff person and the staff member’s response. Produce clear and accurate information regarding the work performance of the employee. Keeping HR as well as the Store Director informed at all times.

    Daily Operations:
  • Keeping an organized and accurate filing system (both physical and electronic) of the information relevant to Retail store management, this includes any work or information handed down from upper management, paperwork involving any staffing discussion or evaluation, phone lists, time off requests etc. and training manuals. Being sure that HR receives necessary information for the personnel files.
  • Maintain customer experience through interactions with customers and store presentation to maintain a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Supervise store inventory, and making note of inventory discrepancies and coordinating this with C&R in the absence of the Store Director.
  • Coordinate the flow of goods from the stock room to the sales floor, organize stock storage and the order “pick-up” area, and replenish merchandise as needed.
  • Sales and Ordering: Manage POS system, oversee in-store and pick-up orders.
  • Accounting procedures: closing, running sales reports, balancing books, etc.
  • Cash management: Includes petty cash and cash drops. Make bank runs in the absence of the Store Director.
  • Maintain store cleanliness to provide a safe and clean environment for staff and customers.
  • Handle customer complaints, questions, and issues in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Create training manuals for store operating procedures.
  • Supervise product pricing to ensure that pricing is current.
  • Oversee returns, restocked, and damaged products.
  • Update displays and merchandising to ensure that promotions and merchandising are accurate and consistent with company’s standards. This will include overseeing the preparation of seasonal and sale displays, plus the daily maintenance of displays.
  • Theft control and de-escalation enforcement as set by the Store Director.
  • Report buying trends, customer requests, and all feedback and ideas back to the Store Director.
  • Remain up to date on all products, including new products and product changes.
  • Ordering of office supplies and store needs as needed.
  • Manage store music.
  • Willingness to learn and perform new procedures, equipment, and technologies
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Physical requirements may include but are not limited to:          

  • Must be able to sit or stand for periods of time while on the sales floor and stock room, performing data entry duties, on the phone, etc.
  • Must be able to assist with helping load orders for customers, this may include lifting and carrying of heavy materials.
  • Lifting up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Associated twisting, pulling, bending at knees and at waist, or reaching up associated with retrieving products as necessary.
