Staff Accountant
Location: Eugene, Oregon
General Description: This is a full-time position which requires working under strict deadlines. The position requires a keen eye for detail, dependability, strict confidentiality, and the ability to proactively stay current with the skills and knowledge needed for an accounting professional. The staff accountant must possess an excellent understanding of, and a high degree of skill in, performing all tasks required in the accounting department which include but are not limited to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll.
This position is scheduled Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm in-office.
This position begins at $26.00/hour DOE with benefits after 90 days.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Perform quick and accurate work with a strong attention to detail and efficiency.
- Communicate competently, both verbally and in writing, with the Controller for any questions, concerns or issues that arise.
- Follow instructions and work well with others in a team orientated environment.
- Highly organized and self-motivated.
- Thorough working knowledge and understanding of Staff Accountant functions to include reporting and record keeping requirements.
- Work independently as well as a part of a team and in close alignment with the HR Department.
- Ability to "shift gears" at a moment's notice and have a professional attitude.
Essential Job Functions:
- Be dependable – consistently at work and on time, follow instructions, and respond to management feedback.
- Be proactive – continue to develop skills, gain additional knowledge, and solicit feedback for improved performance.
- Follow all MRH procedures, policies, and protocols.
- Exhibit timely and effective communication with the Controller as to the status of key projects as well as regular updates of daily tasks.
- Proactively stay current with the professional skills and knowledge needed for a staff accountant.
- Understand the critical nature of confidentiality in the workplace and especially the protection of confidential employee/employer information contained within the Accounting Department.
- Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
- Efficiently and effectively carry out Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Collections, Payroll processing, posting sales, and sales tax tasks as needed and/or as assigned by the Controller and Senior Accountant.
- Work with multiple departments within the company as well as outside businesses in a thorough and professional manner.
- Provide clerical and administrative support to management.
- Assist in month-end closing and reconcile accounts as needed. Familiarity with full-cycle bookkeeping, the accounting equation, and a general understanding of basic GAAP principles for small to medium entities.
- Further responsibilities as directed by the Controller or Senior Accountant, as needed by the Accounting Department, and as required for the overall health and benefit of the company.
- Willingness to learn and perform new procedures and use new equipment/technologies.
- Possess a valid, clean Oregon Driver’s License.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- 3-5 years of business/accounting experience preferred.
- Demonstrable skills in full cycle accounting, ERP accounting, double entry bookkeeping
- Advanced Excel skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Minimal physical requirements to include and/or associated with standing, bending, stooping, to retrieve files.
- Continual physical requirements of sitting or standing for periods of time to complete tasks.
- Sitting at and working on a computer for periods of time.
- Moving between buildings and departments.
