## OTCO & USDA ORGANIC PROGRAM

Mountain Rose Herbs is a certified organic processor and handler through [Oregon Tilth Certified Organic](http://tilth.org/), which is fully accredited with the USDA National Organic Program. Since 1987, we have continuously worked for the advancement of sustainable organic agriculture. We also encourage our customers to support the movement by becoming an individual member of Oregon Tilth, which also entitles you to a subscription to their excellent magazine "In Good Tilth.”

## NON-GMO PROJECT VERIFIED

We’re working with the [Non-GMO Project](http://www.nongmoproject.org/find-non-gmo/verified-products/results/?brandId=8358) to verify a selection of our products. These ingredients have been chosen because they are produced from plant crops that are known to be at risk of GMO contamination. Thankfully, most herbs and spices are not in danger of industrial genetic modification, so [organic certification is our go-to](https://info.mountainroseherbs.com/organics-sustainability#organics) for insuring our herbal goodies are grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, GMO seed stock, or irradiation.

## EARTH KOSHER

Our herbs, spices, teas, extracts, oils, and various bulk ingredients are Kosher certified by [Earth Kosher](http://certified.earthkosher.com/) with "Pareve" status, which in the dietary laws of Judiasm, is a classification of edible substances that contain neither dairy nor meat. Pareve status Kosher certification also serves as verification that a product or ingredient is Vegan.

Inspections are performed throughout the year under the supervision of Rabbi Zecharyah Tzvi Goldman. These inspections include our [facilities](https://info.mountainroseherbs.com/organics-sustainability#facilities), processing and handling methods, [product packaging and labeling](https://info.mountainroseherbs.com/organics-sustainability#sustainablepackaging), and point of origin for our Kosher materials.

FAIR FOR LIFE

Unlike traditional fair trade programs that merely certify products, the [Fair for Life program](http://www.fairforlife.org/) thoroughly reviews Mountain Rose Herbs from top to bottom, evaluating and auditing our working conditions, labor practices, environmental programs, social benefits, and company transparency. Not only does the Fair for Life program certify our entire company as an employer and community member with For Life Social Responsibility certification, but it additionally reviews and monitors the origins of our fair trade products to ensure complete compliance with the Fair for Life Fair Trade program. ## PCO FOREST GROWN VERIFIED

Mountain Rose Herbs is proud to offer the first [Certified Forest Grown American Ginseng](https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/products/ginseng-root-whole-forest-grown/profile) in partnership with the nonprofit [United Plant Savers](https://www.unitedplantsavers.org/), and we are pleased to offer certified organic [Forest Grown ginseng roots and leaves](https://www.unitedplantsavers.org/) that were grown in their native ecosystem – the forested mountains of Appalachia! The plants are tended under the shade of the forest canopy, not shade cloth, allowing them to remain connected to their natural habitat. The roots and leaves are sustainably harvested from private forests that are stewarded by farmers dedicated to preserving this important beneficial plant for the future. We are also proud to offer [Certified Forest Grown Black Cohosh](https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/products/black-cohosh-root-forest-grown/profile) in partnership with small producers in rural Appalachia.

## ZERO-WASTE FACILITY

In 2016, Mountain Rose Herbs became the first company in Oregon to receive a [Zero Waste Facility Certification from Green Business Certification Inc.](https://true.gbci.org/) Not only did we make history in the state of Oregon, but we also achieved the highest available certification – Platinum! In 2017, we achieved [98% waste diversion](https://info.mountainroseherbs.com/organics-sustainability#sustainabilityreport). We strive to close the loop by reducing our greenhouse gases, diverting waste from the landfill, and creating new resource streams.

SALMON-SAFE

We are the first Eugene, Oregon business to be given the [Salmon-Safe](http://www.salmonsafe.org/) certification. To gain this third-party certification, we underwent a thorough assessment and evaluation. We conserve water with a satellite-controlled irrigation system, maintain a pesticide-free facility, and utilize a bioswale, which naturally filters roof and pavement runoff.
