jim lives amongst the woods and meadows of southeast Michigan and has been studying and practicing the art of herbcraft since 1994. He offers a perspective of herbalism that blends western folk and indigenous views of healing with the vitalist traditions of 19th century western herbalism, presented through a blend of story, experience, humor, common sense and lore.
jim has taught classes and led walks at conferences and events throughout the United States, hosts the website herbcraft.org, and is currently alternately writing Foundational Herbcraft and A Great Lakes Herbal in addition to articles for journals and other publications. jim is a community herbalist, a manic wildcrafter and medicine maker, and has been an ardent student of the most learned teachers of herb craft…the plants.
Heron Brae is a northwest-born botanist, folk herbalist, and rewilding-wildcrafter. She is passionate about tending wild food and medicine plants to build right relationship with the earth and transform our civilized worldview into one of interdependence.
Since 1997, she has studied botany, medicine, and magic with Colette Gardiner, the Columbines School of Botanical Studies, the Wilderness Awareness School, and the Evergreen State College, among others. She currently teaches with the Columbines School of Botanical Studies and at community skillshares.
For fun, Heron loves to organize community rewilding projects, geek out on Latin binomials, play in the mountains and plant wild seeds, and do inner battle against the dominator-culture voices in her head. She has a long-standing passion for non-traditional community education, and is excited to participate with her joy and humor in the growing community of revolutionary herbalists, rewilders, and wild plant lovers.
