Mill Operator

Location: Eugene, Oregon

General Description:

This is a full-time, fast-paced position operating Mon-Fri 9am-5:30pm which requires working under strict deadlines and strict food handling procedures. Responsible for sanitation of equipment and rooms according to FDA and GMP guidelines.

The pay for this position starts at $20.00/hour 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:     

  • Heavy lifting is required (50 to 70 pounds) on a continuous basis.

  • Perform quick and accurate work with a strong attention to detail and efficiency.

  • Communicate competently with their supervisors for any questions, concerns or issues that arise.

  • Follow instructions and work well with others in a team orientated environment.

  • Shift gears at a moment's notice and maintain a professional demeanor in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Be dependable – consistently at work and on time, follow instructions, and respond to management feedback.

  2. Be proactive – continue to develop skills, gain additional knowledge, and solicit feedback for improved performance.

  3. Follow MRH procedures and protocols; including policies set out for the department.

  4. Exhibit a keen eye for detail and accurate record keeping skills.

  5. Knowledge of FDA, OSHA, and all GMP procedures and protocols as it pertains to food processing.

  6. Be mechanically inclined and possess problem-solving skills.

  7. Responsible for processing raw and dried material into a finished product that meets or exceeds Quality and Customer standards and expectations.

  8. Knowledge of LOTO and the ability to follow LOTO and other safety procedures.

  9. Keep highly accurate and detailed inventory records on all movements of herbs, spices, and teas.

  10. Print labels as needed for herbs using keyboard and mouse.

  11. Responsible for the accuracy of lot numbers printed on the labels for the herbs, spices and teas.

  12. Properly apply labels to and fill appropriate size bags with bulk material: use appropriate scoop(s), clean and close bags as prescribed.

  13. Ensure material Lot Number accuracy.

  14. Attention to the quality of the products while filling and bringing any potential problems to the attention of the Mill Manager, Lead or Mill QC staff.

  15. Clean and sanitize ALL Equipment and document on cleaning log.

  16. Prepare pallets for daily transfers to other MRH warehouses.

  17. Complete all paperwork in a timely manner and turn into Mill Manager for review.

  18. Communicate with the Mill Manager about quality and equipment issues. 

  19. Willingness to learn and perform new procedures, equipment, and technologies.

  20. Other duties as assigned

 

Physical requirements may include but are not limited to: 

  • Lifting up to 50 pounds continuously and 75 pounds occasion.

  • Mandatory use of respirator type dust masks for some tasks.

  • Bending at knees and at waist related with retrieving these products.

  • Being on one's feet most of the day.

  • Associated twisting, bending, pulling and pushing as necessary.

  • Bag closing by hand.

  • Scooping with various sizes of metal scoops.

  • Reaching into herb tubs, bags, boxes and barrels to retrieve material.

  • Pushing and pulling up to 70 pounds.

  • Fast-paced environment

  • Exposure to herb dust and strong aromatics

 

Equipment Used:

  • Electronic Tablet/Scanner
  • Digital Scale
  • Mobile cart
  • Computer with keyboard and mouse, along with printers and label machines.
  • Sanitizing equipment and chemicals
  • Processing machines and other associated equipment for processing/bagging finished product.
  • Compressed air
  • PIT equipment (Forklifts) and hand trucks
  • Other necessary equipment with proper training and safety precautions in place.
